On September 3rd. Darren and I headed over to "Physicians to Women" for our first doctor's appointment to pregnancy #2. We anticipated hearing confirmation of our pregnancy, but little did we know what we were really in store for. As we proceeded to the sonogram room, Darren joked around saying, "Wouldn't that be funny if it was more than ONE?" I said, with all seriousness, "That's not even funny!" As the sonogram technician came in, I said, "I only have one request! I will be happy with whatever you tell me, as long as you do not tell me there is MORE than ONE in there." She laughed and replied, "Unfortunately, I have no control over that." As she proceeded to do the sonogram, I felt, it was taking her a bit longer than normal to ellaborate on what she was viewing. Little did I know at the time, that she knew exactly what she was viewing, but she was having a small panic attack knowing she had to tell me that I was now a mommy of multiples. As calm as could be, she turned to me and said, "I need to ask you a question. How disappointed are you really going to be if it is more than one?" I looked at her and said, "That's not funny! Please don't joke around like that." She said, "I'm not joking." Darren and I were in complete disbelief. I can comfortably say this now, I cried and cried. The sonogram tech said that is the most natural and common reaction to mothers who receive this news. I had a hard enough time convincing myself to have another child. I thought our lives were just satisfactory with ONE child.
After the nurse confirmed that there were ONLY two babies, we were able to view both babies on the screen and hear both of their heartbeats.
The rest of that day was a bit of a blur. Without the love and support from all of my Church family, neighbors, friends, and a select group of family members, I am not sure I could have survived that day. It's amazing how exciting this is to all of those around us. I sure hope everyone sticks around after the babies are born to enjoy the ride with us. LOL~
